Bluetooth Barcode Scanners

Cordless or Bluetooth barcode scanners have become more common today as the hardware unit costs have become much more affordable in comparison to a traditional barcode scanner. A Bluetooth barcode scanner functions the same way as the traditional corded barcode scanner works, except that the scanner communicates directly to mobile computer or to a Bluetooth paired base station wirelessly. This Bluetooth enabled base station is then connected to your PC through a cable via USB or Serial (RS232). Your PC or MAC does not need Bluetooth wireless support as the base station and barcode scanner handle all of the communications. Just plug in the Bluetooth base station, pair the barcode scanner to the base, and you are ready to start barcode scanning.

Many cordless barcode scanner options use Bluetooth to communicate directly to the host computer, which normally gives you a range of up to 33ft. There are some specialized Bluetooth scanners and proprietary wireless barcode scanners that can transmit beyond 200ft. Some Bluetooth scanner models also offer additional features that corded barcode scanners don't, such as batch memory modes and direct pairing. Some Bluetooth barcode scanners can pair directly to a device without using its cradle, this makes it a perfect match to use with a laptop, tablet, or smartphone that has built-in Bluetooth capabilities.
