Direct Thermal or Thermal Transfer?
Thermal labelling can be split into two printing methods—Direct Thermal and Thermal Transfer. How do you know which is best for you
Direct thermal printing involves applying heat to heat-sensitive media to create images. It’s quick, easy and affordable, but can quickly fade and become unreadable. Suggested uses include shipping, price tags and receipts.
Thermal transfer printers uses heated printheads and wax ribbons to transfer ink directly onto label media. They have a high cost and maintenance need, but produce long-lasting labels with superior print resolution. Suggested uses include asset tracking, long-term storage and outdoor labels.
