Robust reader for bar code cards. Bar codes are not only used on items, e.g. to identify goods, but also on cards, for example on member, loyalty or access cards. Those bar code cards are an interesting alternative to magnetic stripe cards, as they are easy to produce, low in cost and non-sensitive to environmental influences like strong magnetic fields, or dust and dirt. Our solution for easy reading of those bar code cards is the Glancetron 650 bar code slot reader series. The decoder processes the bar code information and immediately transmits the transformed data to the host. The Glancetron 650 is connected directly to every PC via USB, keyboard wedge or serial (RS232).
Special features: The Glancetron 650 reads standard (visible) as well as infrared (invisible) bar codes. They are covered with a greyish-black film that is impenetrable to visible light. This means the bar code is not visible to the eye and can neither be copied nor read with a normal scanner. The decoder processes all common bar codes and has diverse setting possibilities. An extensive set of bar code cards with programming codes is included in the delivery for programming the 650 (for example, turning off certain bar code types, setting of prefixes and suffixes, or changing the signal tone).
Your customer remains flexible with a wide variety of connection possibilities: USB, keyboard wedge or RS232 - select the right version for your application. The keyboard wedge version supplies the PC with the necessary operating power. The reader is simply looped between the keyboard and PC with the included Y-cable and then the information will appear on the display. This pure hardware keyboard emulation needs no software adaptions. The RS232 connection type requires an external 5V PSU and will also need to poll the interface actively to receive the information transmitted by the device.
For the USB version, you need to install the included Windows driver that makes the slot reader work like a keyboard wedge version.
