Electronic Reading Systems PATIENT WRISTBAND DUPLICATOR

Before any form of invasive surgery a patient's wristband will be removed. Since wristbands are not designed to be refitted after removal a replacement wristband must be printed and fitted on completion of surgery.

Traditionally the wristbands are printed in a different location within the hospital with attendant delays and the potential for error. The problem is exacerbated in the post-operative situation where the patients themselves cannot be relied on to confirm the details printed on the replacement band.

Fitting the wrong band can subject a patient to the risk of inappropriate post-operative treatment, or in extreme cases put the patient's life at risk.

 

THE SOLUTION

ERS have developed a compact and stand-alone wristband duplicator system which can be used in the Theatre environment. The system operates independently of the hospital mainframe systems.

Developed as an extension of the standard ERS Barcode Duplicator which has been in use in UK libraries for many years, the Wristband Duplicator comprises only 3 hardware components:

Wristband Printer

Printer PSU

Barcode scanner

 

Using the Duplicator a replacement wristband in the same format as the original can be produced by simply scanning the 2D barcode from the original.

It's as simple as that:

Scan the original wristband and within seconds a replacement is available for the patient.

With the Duplicator, not only is the process immediate, but by re-locating the generation of the replacement band to the Theatre area where there can be a one-to-one relationship between the patient and the production of the band, the potential for error is also removed.
