![]() USB barcode scanners connect to your PC or MAC directly on the USB port either acting as a keyboard using the HID driver supported by Microsoft or via a virtual comm port. In essence USB barcode readers using the HID driver present scanned barcode data as if you had manually keyed the data contained in the barcode. The result is data appears on screen at the current cursor position in your software application e.g. Word, Excel or other applications. Most USB barcode scanners will also take power from the USB interface, ideal for laptop scanning requirements and retail counter top scanning when space is at a premium. ERS has put together the following USB scanners that have proven to be the best on the market.
